What you listening to, Scaper?

What's in it for me? That lawn you just did - it looks like a cake. Perfect chocolate edge, clean and smooth on top, blown off and sculpted. It's the original work. It's hard, but it's fun - and when it's done - it's done.

This site is for Landscapers of America. We are OASIS, the Order of American 'Scapers in Service. This site allows you to trade info, tips, sell equipment, gripe, share customer stories or share job leads. Need a helper? Post it here. Got a blower for sale? Post it here. Know a good way to keep a rider running cheaply? Find the links to the forum and join in the fun. Keep it nice - we're competitors, but there's enough grass to go around for all of us.

Join your comrades of the green and soggy grass of America online with OASIS.

Membership in OASIS will cost you. It's actually kind of cheap, but it requires something of you.

We believe that the job a landscaper performs is the Original Work. It's what God told Adam and Eve to do: "Keep the lawn looking nice." With that in mind, we believe we should be giving something back for the privilege of working in an industry that is as fun as ours and as instantly rewarding as ours. Yeah - it's hot out there, but where do you work? A cubicle? Ah-hahahaha!

If you believe like us - here's what you have to do as a member of OASIS: Give the gift of lawn maintenance to one needy yard per week. You pick the yard. Make it an old lady who can't do it on her own. Make it a poor family where both parents work all the time. Make it a single mom. Make it a sick person. You know the lawns that look like crap on your route? Chances are they look like crap for a reason. Check 'em out . If you see some young guy who looks like he can push a mower hanging out there - then pass that lawn by - they're just lazy. Give your gift to someone who needs it and will appreciate it. If at all possible, it is recommended that OASIS crews practice "guerilla landscpaing," where no one even knows you were there. A Landscaping Strike Force, in and out...because the thrill of giving in secret is far better than the pride of recognition.

Make your weekly lawn some poor church in a bad part of town if you want. You don't have to do the same lawn every week. Pick a different one each week if you want, or stick with one you want to help out and keep that yard as a regular.

Trust us, when people find out you are part of OASIS, you'll be turning business away.

And here's what you get:

  • A set of stickers for your truck or mowers identifying you as a member of OASIS, the Order of American 'Scapers in Service. (When people see these, they know you're a trusted 'scaper.)
  • Free Admission into 'Scaper Games, a bi-annual landscaping challenge sponsored by OASIS. Compete against the nation's best 'scapers in events like Single and Dual Wheel Velke Slalom Mow Race, Hill Shaping, Swamp Whacking, Edge Challenge, Tree Shape Event and Blower Freestyle. This weekend event is the place to bring your skills to challenge others for great prizes and awards.
  • Monthly Newsletter Great stories, tips and tricks. Deals from local shops and deals on the convenience store goodies you depend on in a day. Columns and expert advice. OASIS Monthly is the must-have for any 'scaper's coffee table.

What's it cost? We're thinking $50 a year would be pretty fair. What do you think?
